In October of 1966, the church began as St. Louis Baptist Mission. The first worship service was in November in a storefront property on Ivanhoe Ave. The first choir was formed by the founding Pastor, Rev James A. Turner and was named the “Turner Specials”. The Mission later changed its name to the St. Louis Baptist Church.
Rev. Turner went home to “Glory” in July 1971 and Rev. Roy B. Johnson Jr. became the second pastor in July 1971 .The church experienced steady growth, which led to the search for a larger facility. A location was found at Edison Highway. Despite the numerous obstacles, the congregation was able to occupy the building after a Bill was passed by the Baltimore City Council to change the zoning laws affecting the property. Soon thereafter renovations were made and the congregation marched into its new home on July 1979.
After 35 years of leadership and faithful service Rev. Dr. Roy B. Johnson, Jr.retired as the full time pastor of Good Tidings Baptist Church. On February 26, 2006 Rev. Samuel M. Murray was installed as the pastor of Good Tidings Baptist Church.
The church is a steadfast pillar in the community that continues to grow and spread the word of God.
